Many foreign citizens planning to move to the Republic of Turkey for permanent residence wish to take their four-legged friends with them. And at this point, an urgent question arises: “How to transport your beloved pets by plane?”.

This process is not complicated, but requires increased attention and collection of the required documentation package.

In practice, there are special conditions for transporting animals on board from Russia to Turkey:

• Veterinary passport with a photo of the pet.

The document must be completed in English. The passport should contain marks on the vaccination against plague, rabies and parvovirus.

• Electronic identification.

According to the current standard standards, a microchip is implanted under the skin of the pet, or the pet is identified with a special brand. According to the legal framework of the Republic of Turkey, identification is an important procedure for transporting a dog or cat to Turkey.

• A special, securely closed container designed to transport a pet. The selected container must necessarily meet all the requirements of the International Air Transport Association.

The container should fit the four-legged friend in size. The bottom should be made of absorbent-based material. The owner of the pet provides air access, as well as feeds and waters the animal, throughout the route.

• Treatment of pets from ticks, worms and other parasites.

These procedures are carried out with high-quality, suitable drugs 2-4 days before departure. Also, deworming of animals should be carried out regularly – 1 time per quarter. This should be marked in the veterinary passport.

General rules for transporting animals to Turkey from Russia:

• the pet must be healthy and clean;
• The container must have the appropriate parameters:
  – weight with a pet – no more than 8 kg;
  – total dimensions (height, width, length) – no more than 115 cm;

• The container with the pet is transported in the hands of the owner or under the seat of the front seat.

No more than 2 animals can be transported in the cabin. It is advisable to arrive 3-4 hours before the departure of the flight in order to check in in the front rows and ask for a seat located in the first row, then both the pet and you will be calmer. When going through the registration procedure, you must have a completed form with you to transport your pet as checked baggage.

Transportation of cats and dogs to Turkey is allowed in the cabin and luggage compartment of the aircraft. A prerequisite that airlines put forward is to book a pet in advance (at least one day before departure). Transported four-legged friends are considered as excess baggage and do not belong to the free baggage allowance.

It is not recommended to remove the animal from the container during the flight, so as not to create discomfort to other passengers.
