2020 shows a steady increase in exports of products from Turkey, including Turkish tea. The volume of tea supplies increased by 47.5% compared to last year’s figures, reaching a record $ 6,379,810.
According to the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB), about 1,640 tons of tea leaves were exported to 87 countries in the first quarter of this year. Revenue from the supply amounted to 6,379,810 $, while at the beginning of last year, tea exports in the amount of 1,380 tons brought the country only 4,324,307 $. Accordingly, with last year’s level of sales, their volume increased by 47.5%.
DKİB Vice President Şaban Turgut, speaking to reporters, said that: “The export of our tea has made a significant and significant contribution to the development of the Turkish economy.”
Turgut noted a steady increase in the level of exported tea and expressed confidence in the increase in excellent results in the future. Shaban also added that the cultivation of tea in Turkey is most actively noted on the tea plantations of Riza and in the areas of the Black Sea coast of the country. These areas supply about 60% of the total volume of tea.
Main consumer countries
The main exporters of Turkish tea for many years have been Germany, Belgium and the northern part of Cyprus (TRNC):
- Belgium. In the first quarter of 2020, Turkey sold about 2,298,556 tons of tea to Belgium, which brought in revenue by 328.6% compared to the first months of last year, when the volume of tea supplies in the amount of 140,000 tons brought $ 536,208 to the country.
- Germany. In terms of tea purchase, Germany is in second place with an export volume of $ 903,165.
- TRNC. The Republic of Northern Cyprus closes the top three with tea exports in the amount of $ 583,798.
What to expect in the future
According to experts from the International Monetary Fund, the Turkish economy leads the leadership among the rest of the countries in its region and is a rapidly developing state, even despite the state of recession in which the whole world is due to the coronavirus epidemic. The well-being of our country’s economic indicators is positively affected by:
• advantageous location on the world map;
• Diversified structure;
• Stable inflow of foreign funds.
Thanks to the combination of all these indicators, Turkey is on the list of the most developed countries. Recently, there has been a recovery in interest in tea exports from Turkey and an increase in exporting countries.
Given the steadily growing interest in Turkish tea products, Turgut said: “We are confident that the export volumes of our tea will reach even greater heights with the growing interest of consumers in it. In foreign markets, our products are highly valued because of their good quality. Our manufacturers do not face any problems. Of great interest is the collection of wet Turkish tea, the cultivation of which does not fall in terms of production and supply to factories.
Noting the consistently good quality of Turkish tea and the successful growth of exports, Turgut expressed hope that the high volume figures will continue to grow next year.
